A Bearded Dragon Super Food

Collard greens are one of the healthiest veggies we've come across for bearded dragons. They have an incredible amount of calcium, which should offset any calcium losses from the phosphorus and oxalates. Collards also have a great pH value, are low in sugar, and are rich in vitamin A and vitamin K.

Collard greens provide a natural way to boost your bearded dragon's daily calcium update. Simply mixing a few collards with lower-calcium meals will give your beardie extra calcium without the need for supplements.

How to Feed Collards to Bearded Dragons

Collard greens should be considered a bearded dragon superfood and can be a staple green for your beardie. You can feed your beardie collards every day, if desired. Just be sure to follow the preparation instructions below.

Preparing Collard Greens

Use fresh collard greens either purchased from the store or grown locally. Preprocessed frozen collards may contain additives that could alter the nutritional value, so it's recommended to use fresh collards when available.

Wash the collards thoroughly with water before cutting to remove any loose debris, dirt, or chemicals they may have come in contact with.

Bearded dragons should only eat raw greens, so you need to remove any parts of the collards which are too stiff or tough for your beardie to eat easily. Chop or cut the collards into small pieces to make it easier for your beardie to eat. The pieces should be no larger than the distance between your beardies eyes.

Serve the collards with other vegetables or some of your beardies favorite insects.
