Celery Health Concerns

Overall celery does not have any major nutrition concerns. Keep in mind celery is mostly water with few nutrients, but the nutrients it does contain are fairly well balanced which makes it a good choice for hydrating your beardie.

Celery does contain oxalates (as do most plants), but the oxalic acid level is not high enough to cause any major concerns. Feeding your bearded dragon one stalk per day would be fine as long as it was prepared correctly.

How to Feed Celery to Bearded Dragons

Celery is safe for bearded dragons and can be served once per day without any health risks. With that said, celery provides little nutritional benefit so it's better to opt for other vegetables whenever they're available.

Celery Preparation

Celery has a weaker skin than most vegetables and can absorb nutrients very quickly through both direct contact and soil. Because of these traits celery has a tendency to absorb and retain pesticides applied during its growth. Choosing organic celery is preferred, when possible, to reduce the risk of pesticides being consumed.

Thoroughly wash the celery before cutting to remove any soil or loose debris it may have come in contact with. Celery itself is very stringy so you will need to dice the stalks into very small pieces to make it easier for your bearded dragon to consume. Since celery does not provide very many nutrients you should mix it in with a few other healthy veggies or insects.
